PerFormS Srl is a spin-off of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, accompanied in its development in recent years by the G-Factor incubator of Fondazione Golinelli in Bologna.
The investment will be covered by the guarantee of the Medio Credito Centrale for 80% of the invested amount.
Utopia SIS, the investment company specializing in healthcare and biomedicine, promoted and participated by Fondazione Golinelli, Fondazione Sardegna, and Executive Vice President Antonio Falcone, has invested in PerFormS Srl, a spin-off of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia specializing in research for the treatment of the chronic disease psoriasis.
In recent years, the company has been incubated by G-Factor of Fondazione Golinelli, which holds a stake in the startup, allowing the researchers, Professor Eliana Grazia Leo, Dr. Eleonora Maretti, and Dr. Virginia Brighenti, to support and continue their research project.
The path undertaken by Utopia SIS and Medio Credito Centrale, which will issue a guarantee equal to 80% of the investment, is also confirmed for this investment.
PerFormS, an important example of scientific research and entrepreneurship all led by women, is specifically developing a new non-corticosteroid anti-inflammatory drug for the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions.
The project aims to transform, through nanotechnologies, an endogenous molecule, already present in the body, into a new safe and effective drug for the long-term treatment of psoriasis skin symptoms.
“This third investment by Utopia makes me particularly proud because we are contributing to the support and development of a startup that, in addition to being a university spin-off, is conducting a very interesting project. Our country is rich in clinical and research excellence that needs to be financed to complete the development process, and the important commitment of the Medio Credito Centrale also on this occasion represents a strategic testimony for the sector,” commented Antonio Falcone, Executive Vice President of Utopia SIS.
Utopia SIS in the operation was assisted by Lawyer Chiara Izis of the Law Firm Lener Morrone & Partners as legal advisor for the operation and by Giordano Calzoni who acted as financial advisor for the management of the guarantee with MCC.
